Sunday September 28. 117 new, 44 recaps. Erin Karnatz and crew enjoy the company and expertise of David Norman. White-throated Sparrow was the bird of the day with 47.
Monday September 29. 140 new, 12 recaps, new species Savannah Sparrow and
Dark-eyed Junco. It's our best day so far with sun most of the day interrupted by a brief flurry of ice pellets. In the evening we have a dinner in honor of David Norman and we are treated to a slide program of his banding activities in Britain and Senegal.
Tuesday September 30. 90 new, 23 recaps, new species Eastern Tufted Titmouse. A pair of Yellow-shafted Flickers make an interesting side-by-side study.
Wednesday October 1. 125 new, 47 recaps. It's a great day highlighted by the first Golden-crowned Kinglet and a beautiful
hatch-year male Cooper's Hawk. We enjoy a visit from Bill Kaiser.
Thursday October 2. 54 new, 31 recaps, new species Cape May Warbler. We close at mid-morning as ice and hail move in, but we reopen the nets for the RIT class and get a few birds for them to practice their skills.
Friday October 3. 114 new, 18 recaps. Candidates and Trainers assemble for the weekend North American Banding Council's Landbird bander certification session. The RIT students enjoy a presentation on Bob Yunick's banding research.
Saturday October 4. 32 new, 19 recaps, new species Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. We have rain at dawn so are worried if we'll capture enough birds for the NABC session's candidates to be tested on but it clears for several hours in mid-morning and we have enough birds. Congratulations to our own Charley Eiseman, and Tom LeBlanc of Salamanca, NY, and Dan Webb of Ohio for successfully passing their bander certification examination!
