Sunday September 7. 29 new, 14 recaps. Erin Karnatz, Coby Klein, Pat Lovallo, and Chris Villone get the first White-throated Sparrows of the fall.

Monday September 8. 17 new, 9 recaps. Ryan Kayhart began work as the fall intern and joined Betsy Brooks, Kristi Hannam, Coby Klein, and Ann Adams. Steven Army and Randy Nemecek of the NYS DEC and Ronald Beldew of Hanson Aggregates, all of whom either arranged for or delivered the truckload of crushed stone for our trails, visited.

Tuesday September 9. 31 new, 10 recaps. Charley Eiseman returned as our fall research assistant. Erin Karnatz, Coby Klein, Kelly Dockery, Doug Smith, Ruth Stork, and Donna Hilborn enjoyed a fine fall day but very few birds. Betsy and Delaney enjoyed nice walks and we had a visit from Bill Symonds telling of a color-banded Greater Black-backed Gull at the Hamlin Beach Lake Watch. Don Cowley and his father enjoyed the birds but the slowness of the bird activity prompted a decision to put nets up on the alphabet trail.

Wednesday September 10. 52 new, 23 recaps, new species Sharp-shinned Hawk, Hairy Woodpecker, Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Each day gets a little better and we enjoy the first Ruby-crowned Kinglet of the fall. The morning starts with a Little Brown Bat in our nets. Later, a female Sharp-shinned Hawk later gets caught in the same net.

Thursday September 11. 42 new, 18 recaps, new species Northern Flicker, Brown Creeper. This is the first day of the fall Bander Training Class, so we welcome 4 RIT students. The birds and the Monarchs are migrating - just as they were on this day in 2001 … and life goes on.

Friday September 12. 24 new, 14 recaps, new species Eastern Wood Pewee, Gray-cheeked Thrush. It was a beautiful set-up with a full moon and mist over the field. Male and female Hooded Warblers captured at the same time made nice side-by-side photographs. We enjoyed a visit from Bob Spahn and Dick O'Hara and his family.

Saturday September 13. 15 new, 16 recaps. Bob McKinney, assisted by Chita, Ryan, and Jeanne Skelly, enjoyed a pleasant summer-like day but few birds.
