Tuesday May 6. 13 new, 6 recaps. It was definitely quality over quantity today with only 13 birds banded, but one of them a Louisiana Waterthrush (only the second ever banded at Braddock Bay)! We welcomed students from the Diversified Occupations Program at the Hannaford Career Center in Middlebury, VT and their teachers Meghan and Rodney Olsen.
Wednesday May 7. 301 new, 5 recaps. It's a banner day with 301 birds banded including new species WarblingVireo, Tennessee Warbler, Orange-crowned Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Cape May Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, and Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Our banders were Betsy Brooks and John Waud ably assisted by Liz Barry, Chara Batchelder, Judy Engerman, Pat Lovallo, Loretta Morrell, Patti O'Kane, Laurie Zagmester, and intern Ryan Kayhart. We also appreciated the help of the DO students and teachers and two visiting ringers from Belgium, Vincent Bulteau, and Laurent Leclercq.
Thursday May 8. 99 new, 27 recaps. It was an international day with Swiss RIT student Anna Ludi, Belgian ringers Vincent Bulteau and Laurent Leclercq, and British ringers John and Jerry Wilshe from East Sussex, UK all participating at the station. We get one bird shy of a hundred for the day, 56 of them Ruby-crowned Kinglets, but a beautiful Orange-crowned Warbler with a brilliant crown makes the day.
