Banding Summary:
Week of April 13, 2003 |
|
Saturday April 12. It was station set-up day at the Kaiser-Manitou Beach Banding Station. We were able to get all the nets up thanks to a great crew including Ann Adams, Chara Batchelder, Bryan Correa, Jon Dombrowski, Virginia Duffy, Erin Karnatz, Anna Ludi, Cindy Marino, Bob McKinney, Debbie Reed, David Semple, Doug Smith, Ruth Stork, Barb and Glenn Wagner, John Waud, and Laurie Zagmaster. The field looks just like a field again thanks to the hard work of Jim Gilette and Doug Smith. It should be great for Bobolinks!
Sunday April 13. 8 new, 5 recap, new species Brown Creeper, Winter Wren, American Robin, American Tree Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Northern Cardinal. Erin Karnatz was bander-in charge (BIC) assisted by Anna Ludi, Jeanne Skelly and scribe Debbie Reed.
Monday April 14. 50 new, 8 recaps, new species Eastern Phoebe, Black-capped Chickadee, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Field Sparrow, Savannah Sparrow, Fox Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, Slate-colored Junco, Common Grackle. Jon Dombrowski was BIC assisted by Cindy Marino, Chara Batchelder, and scribes Ann Adams and Judy Gurley.
It was a great sparrow day with five species banded included Savannah.
Tuesday April 15. 66 new, 0 recaps, new species Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Hermit Thrush, Myrtle Warbler, White-throated Sparrow. BIC Jon Dombrowski with help from Doug Smith, Anna Ludi, Kelly Dockery, and scribes Ruth Stork and Donna Hilborn had a great day with 21 Brown Creepers (a one-day record!) and a second Savannah Sparrow.
Wednesday April 16. 33 new, 9 recaps, new species Sharp-shinned Hawk. John Waud was BIC assisted by Chara Batchelder, Laurie Zagmester and scribe Judy Engerman. It was a three-Sharp-shinned Hawk
day!
Thursday April 17. With morning temperatures between 28-30 dg, and the possibility of freezing rain, for the safety of the birds the station did not open.
Friday April 18. 8 new, 4 recap, new species Brown Thrasher. The predicted South winds never materialized; it was NE all day, so it was really slow. We only banded 8 birds, but one was a nice Brown Thrasher. And we had a Sharpie retrap which Shirley Meston took out of the nets (her first!). Cindy Marino was BIC assisted by Shirley, Kelly Dockery, Laurie Zagmester, and scribe Marilyn Guenther.
Saturday April 19. 18 new, 3 recap. Erin Karnatz, assisted by Anna Ludi, Shirley Meston, Doug Smith, and Virginia Duffy had a quiet day.
