Friday August 27. It is Fall 2004 Set-up day and it finally turns into summer!!! Mosquitoes, humidity and 90 degree temperatures make setting up a challenge but we get everything up but the nets on the back aerials and the 50 aerial (where someone has removed the sleeves for the poles over the summer). Betsy Brooks, Jon Dombrowski, Donna Hilborn, Cindy Marino, Doug Smith and Barb Wagner are the dedicated crew! A Carolina Wren singing near the Banding Lab makes us itchy to start banding.

Monday August 30. It's the first day of the intensive banding season and heavy storms move into the area at dawn. Our first day of banding is a bust - not the best start to the season.

Tuesday August 31. 43 new, 12 recaps; new species Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Traill's Flycatcher, Least Flycather, Great Crested Flycatcher, Warbling Vireo, Red-eyed Vireo, Black-capped Chickadee, House Wren, Gray Catbird, Cedar Waxwing, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, American Redstart, Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat, Wilson's Warbler, Scarlet Tanager, Song Sparrow, Northern Cardinal and Rose-breasted Grosbeak. The bird of the day is Red-eyed Vireo with 7 banded. We work on getting the rest of the nets up.

Wednesday September 1. 19 new, 11 recaps; new species Red-breasted Nuthatch, Blue-winged Warbler and Nashville Warbler. Jon Dombrowski is bander-in-charge (BIC) assisted by Linda Boutwell and Marilyn Guenther.

Thursday September 2. 26 new, 10 recaps; new species Yellow Warbler, Ovenbird, and Canada Warbler.

Friday September 3. 22 new, 8 recaps; new species Downy Woodpecker, and Bay-breasted Warbler. Cindy Marino is BIC assisted by Virginia Duffy, Doug Smith, and John Lehr. Bird of the day is Magolia Warbler with 5 banded.

Saturday September 4. 17 new, 8 recaps; new species Blackpoll Warbler. Bob McKinney was BIC assisted by Chita McKinney and Linda Boutwell.
new, 18 recaps. Off and on showers limit our net hours so we only band 37 birds of 12 species. We welcome Dan Bushey, another of Rodney Olsen's students from Vermont.
