Tuesday April 12. It’s ‘set-up day’ and we have a great crew with Betsy Brooks, Kelly Dockery, Jon Dombrowski, Cricket Fegan, Marilyn Guenther, Donna Hilborn, Pat Lavollo, Bob McKinney, and David Semple. There are 17 Wild Turkeys in the field – a sign of trouble to come for our nets? The net lanes are actually dry due to the two previous weeks without rain.

Friday April 15. 23 new, 1 recap, 11 species. Jon Dombrowski is Bander-in charge (BIC) assisted by Sue Finnegan and Gretchen Putonen, banders from Wing Island Banding Station on Cape Cod, MA who are in Rochester to attend the 82nd annual meeting of the Eastern Bird Banding Association. Later in the evening, banders Bruce Fortman of New Freedom, PA, David Hauber of Coudersport, PA and Rodney Olsen of Vergennes, VT conduct a workshop on Saw-whet Owl banding for 50 EBBA members. They demonstrate ageing and sexing techniques and all the steps involved in catching owls and banding them. The first bird captured during the evening was an American Woodcock, but then two saw-whet owls are netted, one of them a foreign recapture!

Saturday April 16. 41 new, 3 recaps, 11 species. Kelly Dockery is BIC with help from Jeanne Skelly and Marilyn Guenther. A large number of EBBA meeting attendees visit the banding station early in the morning, with Bob Yunick assisting with some of the banding.
