Banding Summary:
Week of April 24, 2005 |
|
Sunday April 24. Station closed due to wind and rain.
Monday April 25. 4 new, 7 recaps, 4 species. It was cold and showers moved in 3 hours after sunrise, but it was a good day to better organized for the season ahead.
Tuesday April 26. 41 new, 18 recaps, 9 species; new species Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and Pine Warbler. Cindy Marino was BIC assisted by Senior Intern Ryan Kayhart, Rob van der Stricht, Donna Hilborn, Ruth Stork and Betsy Brooks. The Pine Warbler was definitely the bird of the day! Paul Weld and Dick O'Hara stop by to enjoy the birds.
Wednesday April 27. 92 new, 3 recaps, 17 species; new species Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Brown Thrasher, Yellow Warbler, Palm Warbler (Western and Yellow races), and Northern Waterthrush. Showers moved east of Rochester more quickly than forecast, so we had a fine morning of banding, including two gorgeous Yellow Palm Warblers…our best day so far this spring.
Thursday April 28. 11 new, 3 recaps, 8 species. Despite SW winds, it is still very cold by the lake so our totals are very disappointing! Coby Klein joins us for the rest of the season. A strong thunderstorm moves in so all our nets are closed for the rest of the day.
Friday April 29. 17 new, 6 recaps, 8 species. Another cold day! Delaney and Rowan enjoy six Blue Jays that may mark the beginning of their migration.
Saturday April 30. 31 new, 9 species. Bob McKinney, with help from Jack Duvall and Ryan Kayhart, actually have a good couple of early morning hours before the rains move in. Bird of the day is Ruby-crowned Kinglet with 23 banded.
