Banding Summary:
Week of May 1, 2005 |
|
Sunday May 1. 28 new, 12 recaps, 4 species. Kelly Dockery and Erin Karnatz are banders-in-charge (BIC) with help from Pat Lovallo, Ryan Kayhart, Chris Villone, and Scott Wolcott. Ruby-crowned Kinglet is bird-of-the-day with 23 banded.
Monday May 2. 13 new, 10 recaps, 8 species. New species Black-throated Blue Warbler. It's an icy start to the day. A photographer catches us in action for an article in tomorrow's Rochester D&C.
Tuesday May 3. 8 new, 8 recaps, 6 species. Another cold, disappointing day! The highlight is the Sharp-shinned Hawk on the first net check of the morning.
Wednesday May 4. 7 new, 7 recaps, 4 species. New species House Wren. Another cold, disappointing day! Where are the birds? We enjoy a visit from several local woodcarvers. Courtney Rawleigh begins her 3-week job as our field assistant.
Thursday May 5. 88 new, 12 recaps, 18 species. New species White-crowned Sparrow and Savannah Sparrow. The highlights of the day are two Savannah Sparrows in a field net. Only 12 of these sparrows have been captured at the station in the past 19 spring seasons. We have a nice variety today, but Ruby-crowned Kinglet is still bird-of-the-day with 45 banded. Nancy Chevalier joins us as a new scribe.
Friday May 6. 149 new, 9 recaps, 27 species. New species Downy Woodpecker, Least Flycatcher, Veery, Nashville Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Ovenbird, Common Yellowthroat, and Lincoln's Sparrow. Finally, a decent day, with nice variety!!! We enjoy a visit from long-time BBBO supporters Don and Skippy Raines. The male Blackburnian Warbler is worth the wait!
Saturday May 7. 35 new, 10 species. Bob McKinney is BIC with assistance from Cricket Fegan, Ryan Kayhart, Pat Lovallo, Chita McKinney and Courtney Rawleigh.
