Banding Summary: Preseason & Week of August 26, 2006

Species banded during the pre-season (7/8, 7/14, 7/17, 7/20, 8/4, 8/8, 8/12, 8/16, 8/21 and 8/23. Black-billed Cuckoo, Downy Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Eastern Wood Pewee, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Traill’s Flycatcher, Least Flycatcher, Eastern Phoebe, Great Crested Flycatcher, Warbling Vireo, Philadelphia Vireo, Red-eyed Vireo, Black-capped Chickadee, Carolina Wren, House Wren, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Veery, Hermit Thrush, Wood Thrush, American Robin, Gray Catbird, Cedar Waxwing, Blue-winged Warbler, Brewster’s Warbler, Tennessee Warbler, Northern Parula, Yellow Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Cape May Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Bay-breasted Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, American Redstart, Ovenbird, Northern Waterthrush, Mourning Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Wilson’s Warbler, Canada Warbler, Field Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, Northern Cardinal, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Baltimore Oriole, House Finch, American Goldfinch. 

Week of August 26 - September 2

Saturday August 26. 49 new of 21 species, 12 recaps; new species White-breasted Nuthatch, Blackburnian Warbler. We have a great start to the season, with only about half our nets in use. Bander-in-charge (BIC) is Jon Dombrowski. We band nine warbler species including 9 Magnolia Warblers.

Sunday August 27. 34 new of 14 species, 7 recaps. Erin Karnatz is BIC with help from Pat Lovallo and Scott Walcott. Bird of the day is Cedar Waxing with 13 banded!

Monday August 28. 36 new of 15 species, 7 recaps.. Cindy Marino is BIC with help from Abby, Pat Lovallo, Dave Mathiason, Ruth Stork, and Martha Zettel. Cedar Waxwings still rule, with 11 more banded today.

Tuesday August 29. 25 new of 10 species, 4 recaps.. Jon Dombrowski is BIC assisted by Doug Smith, Virginia Duffy and Donna Hilborn. We have showers threatening, so only open a few nets for part of the morning. But we still band 9 warbler species including 12 Magnolia Warblers. 

Wednesday August 30. 53 new of 16 species, 9 recaps. Cindy Marino is BIC with the assistance of Linda Boutwell, Donna Hilborn and Lee Schofield. Magnolia Warbler is bird of the day with 21 banded. 

Thursday August 31. 77 new of 19 species. New species Acadian Flycatcher, Swainson’s Thrush, Western Palm Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler. Bob McKinney is BIC with help from Doug Smith, Marilyn Guenther and Susan Kieren.

Friday September 1. 69 new of 15 species; 25 recaps. . Jon Dombrowski is BIC with help from Marilyn Guenther, Kelly Dockery, Shirley Meston, Peggy Kellyer and John Lehr. Bird of the day is Magnolia Warbler with 30 banded. 

Saturday September 2. 10 new of 7 species. Showers move in so we close nets early. 
It’s a disappointing day for Bob McKinney, Jeanne Skelly and Chita McKinney
