Banding Summary: Week of October 15, 2006

See the weekly Banding Table

Sunday October 15. 24 new of 11 species. A late Blue-headed Vireo is our only bright spot of the day!

Monday October 16. 73 new of 14 species. Bob McKinney is BIC with help from Rachel Muheim and Chita. It isn’t a bad day, with 16 Hermit Thrushes banded plus a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and a Fox Sparrow. We enjoy a visit from Jim Keefer, a retired teacher from Brockport High School, who is a master bander!

Tuesday October 17. We are rained out – no banding at all today.

Wednesday October 18. 41 new of 11 species. Bob McKinney is BIC with help from Chita and Linda Boutwell. Bird of the day is White-throated Sparrow, with 24 banded but a late Blackpoll Warbler is the hit of the day!

Thursday October 19. 19 new of 8 species. Jon Dombrowski is BIC with help from Dave Mathiason, Peggy Keller, Shirley Meston and Doug Smith. We begin end-of-the season chores, taking some of the nets down. It’s the end of the intensive (daily) banding season and our totals are down – 3993 birds banded (compared to 6470 in fall 2005) due in part to many days with rain which forced us to close nets for at least part of the normal banding hours.

Note: BIC = "bander-in-charge"
