Week of April 15, 2006 |

Saturday April 15. 151 new of 16 species. New species: Eastern Phoebe, Black-capped Chickadee, Brown Creeper, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, American Robin, Brown Thrasher, Yellow-rumped Warbler, American Tree Sparrow, Field Sparrow, Fox Sparrow, Song Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, Northern Cardinal, and Red-winged Blackbird. Bob McKinney opens the season with help from Chita McKinney, Jeanne Skelly, and Pat Lovallo. An astounding 111 Black-capped Chickadees are banded!!!!!
Monday April 17. 58 new of 8 species; 12 recaps. New species: American Goldfinch.
John Waud is Bander-in-charge (BIC) with help from Doug Smith, Pat Lovallo, Donna Hilborn and high school student Andy Garland. The chickadees (40) descend at 8 AM so we close nets for a while to get caught up.
Tuesday April 18. 87 new of 8 species; 1 recap. New species: Northern Flicker, Winter Wren, and House Finch. Cindy Marino is BIC with assistance from Virginia Duffy, Jesse Roberts, Doug Smith, Donna Hilborn, Shirley Meston, and Gary Herbert. Seventy-six chickadees appear at the usual hour so we shut down nets to get caught up with the influx. The first Flicker of the season is bird-of-the-day!
Wednesday April 19. 60 new of 8 species, 5 recaps. John Waud and Kelly Dockery are BICs with help from Donna Hilborn, Ruth Stork and Andrew Garland. The chickadees still make the morning lively with 34 banded.
Thursday April 20. 80 new of 14 species, 9 recaps. New species Downy Woodpecker, and House Wren. Jon Dombrowski is BIC with help from Doug Smith, Jesse Roberts, Marilyn Guenther, and Sue Kieren. We band another 34 chickadees.
Friday April 21. 98 new of 14 species, 3 recaps. New species Blue Jay, Hermit Thrush, and Swamp Sparrow. Cindy Marino is BIC with the assistance of John Lehr, Cricket Fegan, Virginia Duffy, Ruth Stork, and Marilyn Guenther. The chickadees just won’t quit (another 45 today).
Saturday April 22. 23 new of 2 species; 1 recap. David Bonter is BIC with help from Chita McKinney, Peggy Keller, and Marilyn Guenther on a rainy day. Twenty Ruby-crowned Kinglets save the day for our tour in connection with the IMBD/Hawkout Festival going on at Braddock Bay Park.
