Monday, August 20, 2007. 25 new, 14
recaptures. The intensive fall banding season begins
with 11 species captured including Canada, Wilson's,
and Magnolia Warblers. David Bonter is BIC for the week
with visiting researcher Rafael Herrerra, a professor
at the University of Tamaulipas, Mexico, and the wonderful
assistance of Aggie Windig.
Tuesday, August 21, 2007. 16 new, 4 recaptures. Strong
winds from the east bring few birds to the banding station.
A lone Yellow-bellied Flycatcher is the first of the
fall season.
Wednesday, August 22, 2007. 23 new, 20 recaptures.
Superstar volunteer Marilyn Guenther helps out as we
catch our first Sharp-shinned Hawk, Ovenbird, and Veery
for the season.
Thursday, August 23, 2007. 20 new, 11 recaptures. A
warm, slow day of banding with no new species to report.
Friday, August 24, 2007. 7 new, 10 recaptures. Nearly
as many banders as birds today as we are joined by Dr.
Rachel Vallender and Dr. Ernesto Ruelas, both of the
Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Fortunately Rachel and Ernesto
will be staying for several days and will see some more
birds.
Saturday, August 25, 2007. 27 new, 15 recaptures. The
migrants continue to trickle by with 14 species captured.
"Traill's" Flycatcher is the bird of the day
with 7 banded.
