Sunday, August 26, 2007. 35 new, 15
recaptures. A Saw-whet Owl and a Connecticut Warbler
highlight the day! The unexpected owl was captured two
hours after sunrise. 22 species were captured. The banding
crew included David Bonter (BIC), Professor Rafael Herrerra
from the University of Tamaulipas Mexico, and three
ornithologists from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology:
Rachel Vallender, Megan Whitman, and Ernesto Ruelas.
Monday, August 27, 2007. 41 new, 13 recaptures. We
are still waiting for a cold front to push the birds
south, but today is our best day of the last two weeks.
We band our first Black-throated Blue Warbler (a first
for Mexican ornithologist Rafael Herrerra). Magnolia
Warbler is the bird of the day with 12 banded.
Tuesday, August 28, 2007. 35 new, 16 recaptures. The
trickle of migrants continues. Magnolia Warbler is again
the bird of the day with 9 banded.
Wednesday, August 29, 2007. 22 new, 10 recaptures.
A slow day highlighted by two hatch-year Indigo Buntings.
Thursday, August 30, 2007. A Philadelphia Vireo is
the first for the season and the highlight of the day.
We also capture Warbling and Red-eyed vireos. A young
female Hooded Warbler is also a pleasant surprise.
