Sunday September 9. No banding was done
today because of rain.
Monday September 10. 80 new of 23 species; 21 recaps;
new species Swamp Sparrow. We welcome back Dave Alexander,
Betsy Brooks and Ryan Kayhart. Cindy Marino is BIC and
Bird of the day is Magnolia Warbler with 20 banded.
It’s great to have Shirley Meston back working
at the nets. Steve Maley trims vegetation for us making
much neater net lanes! Rachel Muheim, from Virginia
Tech, arrives for another season of migration orientation
research.
Tuesday September 11. 45 new of 18 species; 16 recaps.
Showers threaten most of the morning, but we get in
six hours of banding. Kelly Dockery is BIC. We get nine
warbler species including 4 Bay-breasted and 4 Blackpoll
Warblers.
Wednesday September 12. 86 new of 25 species; 21 recaps;
new species Ruby-crowned Kinglet and Tennessee Warbler.
It’s a good day with Ryan Kayhart as BIC with
help from Linda Boutwell, Marilyn Guenther, and Lee
Schofield. Bird of the day is Wilson’s Warbler
with 15 banded.
Thursday September 13. 123 new of 20 species; 28 recaps;
new species Winter Wren, Gray-cheeked/Bicknell’s
Thrush and Brown Thrasher. We have NW winds during the
night and good early action including 16 Swainson’s
Thrush and 23 Magnolia Warbler. Jon Dombrowski is BIC
with help from Barb and Glenn Wagner, Aggie Windig,
and Sue Evans. Sue mends nets for two hours …
a tedious job that is much appreciated! We welcome 10
RIT students to the fall Bander Training Class. In the
evening we set up some extra nets and try for Saw-whet
Owls and the Screech Owl that sings near the banding
lab every night, but have no luck.
Friday September 14. 48 new of 20 species; 14 recaps;
new species Northern (Yellow-shafted) Flicker. John
Waud is BIC. John Lehr brings much appreciated fresh
weighing cans. The heat causes us to close quite a few
nets that are in the sun. Bird of the day is Magnolia
Warbler with 12 banded today.
Saturday September 15. 54 new of 21 species; 1 recap;
new species Cape May Warbler. Bob McKinney is BIC with
help from Chita, Ryan and Rachel. Two Cape May Warblers
are nice. Bird of the day is Blackpoll Warbler with
16 banded.
