Banding Summary: Week of October 12, 2008

Sunday October 12. 38 new of 12 species; 14 recaps. New species Fox Sparrow. Erin Karnatz is BIC with help from Mark Deutschlander and Barb Wagner. Two beautiful Fox Sparrows are a sign that fall migration is winding down; bird of the day is White-throated Sparrow with 13 banded.

Monday October 13. 42 new of 6 species; 15 recaps. Cindy Marino is BIC with help from Mark Deutschlander, Greg Lawrence, Terry Perry and Kelly Wicks. Bird of the day is White-throated Sparrow with 18 banded, but 15 Hermit Thrush are also banded.

Tuesday October 14. 16 banded of 10 species; 20 recaps. Jon Dombrowski is BIC with the assistance of Mark Deutschlander, Doug Smith, Aggie Windig, Gary Herbert, Judy Engerman, Ruth Stork. Post-doc at Villanova College Susan Smith continues here research taking blood samples from some of the birds. It takes a long time to close nets as they must be cleared of the falling leaves.

Wednesday October 15. 77 new birds banded of 12 species; 18 recaps. New species is Field Sparrow. Kelly Dockery is BIC with help from Mark Deutschlander, Linda Boutwell, Aggie Windig, Sue Evans and Marilyn Guenther. Bird of the day is Golden-crowned Kinglet with 20 banded; 18 Ruby-crowned Kinglets are also banded.

Thursday October 16. 20 new of 7 species. Bob McKinney is BIC with help from Chita and Sue Evans. Bird of the day is Golden-crowned Kinglet with 8 banded.

Friday October 17. 78 new of 12 species; 13 recaps. David Mathiason is BIC with help from Marian Klik and Marilyn Guenther. Bird of the day is White-throated Sparrow with 22 banded.

Saturday October 18. Banding station is not open as banders are attending the 26th annual meeting of regional bird banders hosted by Dave and Sandy Junkin at their Bliss Bird Observatory.
