Banding Summary: Week of April 20, 2008

Sunday April 20. 65 new bands of 10 species; 9 recaps. New species Eastern Phoebe, American Robin, Brown Thrasher, Field Sparrow and Northern Cardinal. Erin Karnatz is BIC with help from Barb Wagner, and Taza Schaming. Bird of the day was chickadee with 45 banded, making sore fingers for the crew!

Monday April 21. 21 new bands of 8 species; 11 recaps. New species Blue Jay and Common Grackle. Chickadee is again bird of the day with 15 banded. Cindy Marino is BIC with help from Virginia Duffy, Shirley Meston, Peggy Keller, Judy Engerman and Taza Schaming.

Tuesday April 22. 44 new bands of 10 species; 5 recaps. New species Downy Woodpecker, Blue-headed Vireo, Winter Wren, and Hermit Thrush. Bird of the day on this Earth Day is again chickadee with 22 banded. Kelly Dockery is BIC with help from Doug Smith and Ruth Stork.

Wednesday April 23. 84 new bands of 15 species. New species Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Yellow Palm Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Chipping Sparrow, and Fox Sparrow. Bob McKinney is BIC with the assistance of Pat Lovallo and Chita. Bird of the day is Ruby-crowned Kinglet with 26 banded.

Thursday April 24. 28 new bands of 11 species; 9 recaps. New species Intergrade Flicker. Jon Dombrowski is BIC with help from Marian Klik and Peggy Keller. Bird of the day is the beautiful Intergrade Flicker.

Friday April 25. 45 new bands of 8 species. New species Rusty Blackbird. Kelly Dockery is BIC with the assistance of Kathleen Holt, and Marilyn Guenther. Bird of the day is Ruby-crowned Kinglet with 25 banded.

Saturday April 26. 86 new bands of 23 species. New species House Wren, Veery, Blue-winged Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Palm Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Savannah Sparrow, Lincoln’s Sparrow, and American Goldfinch. Bob McKinney is BIC with help from Chita McKinney, Taza Schaming, and young Greg Lawrence, a promising young birder/bander, with his father Fred. The great variety of spring migrants is enjoyed by many visitors.
