Following are
links to graphs showing the timing of spring and fall migration in various
species through our study area on the south shore of Lake Ontario. Banding
records from the Kaiser-Manitou Beach station (1999 - 2001) and the Hamlin
Beach station (1999 - 2000) are included in the graphs. The timing of migration
in songbirds is generally thought to be controlled by day length. However,
arrival times at our study sites are certainly influenced by weather patterns.
Please note that peak migration periods for many species occur either before
our intensive migration monitoring periods begin (ex. White-throated Sparrow in
spring and many warblers in fall) or after monitoring ends (ex. Black-capped
Chickadee in fall).
The following
graphs are saved as Adobe .PDF files, and the Adobe Reader is required to them.
